Darjeeling Limited

I just watched Darjeeling Limited, set in India. No, it’s set in Wes Anderson’s version of India. Beyond the beauty of the cinematography, I remember thinking, there should be more people. And traffic. What about the noise? Why are the trains so clean? Why is one of the characters barefoot – has he looked at what’s on the ground?

All in all, I can see the allure of this India. They didn’t haggle with rickshaw drivers or have explosive diarrhea, nor are they accosted by touts every step they take. I’d visit this India.

Which is all the more odd, as I’m actually returning to that crazy country (the real, non-Wes Anderson India) within a year. I’m not even too sure why.
