On the GR5

Haven’t updated my blog in a few days. I’ve started hiking the GR5. I landed in Geneva the night of the 14th, spent a semi-sleepness night in a youth hostel, took a bus and part hitched to St. Gingolf on the French/Swiss border around noon of the 15th, and started hikin to Novel, a small town a few hours in that day. Spent the night in Novel, which was hosting a festival, and got to listen to horn players!

Morning of the 16th I kept hiking, managed to get lost on an alternate GR5 trail (doh!) and didn’t make it as far as I wanted. Oh well. Fast forward a few days, and I’m an hour north of Samoens, staying at the house of a kind Anlgo/International couple, amusing their children and using their internet to write this. I stop in Samoens for a few beloved french pastries, spend the night at a refuge, and hopefully make it to Chamonix tomorrow night. That, of course, depends on the inclement weather.
